WASHINGTON, D.C., February 14, 2025 — Today, the U.S. Department of Education announced that it is extending the institutional reporting deadline for gainful employment (GE) and financial value transparency (FVT) until September 30, 2025.
The Department of Education’s decision to offer this latest and anticipated “final” extension will provide relief to overburdened aid offices that have been trying to navigate ongoing system glitches and a lack of guidance, making it difficult for schools to submit accurate data.
NASFAA has been calling on the Department of Education to delay these reporting requirements since December 2023, and had asked for a delay until July 2025 to help ease the heavy burden that financial aid offices are facing with the FAFSA rollout.
In response to today’s news, NASFAA Interim President & CEO Beth Maglione released the following statement:
"Extending this year's submission deadline for gainful employment (GE) and financial value transparency (FVT) reporting to September 30, 2025 is a sensible and welcome decision that will give financial aid offices much needed breathing room while they navigate unresolved issues in submitting their data and make necessary corrections to ensure the data they submit is accurate.
This extension will also give financial aid professionals the flexibility to focus on the important work of counseling students and ensuring they receive their financial aid without delay."
