Cyber Incident Forces Louisiana to Pull Financial Aid Systems Offline

By Hugh T. Ferguson, NASFAA Managing Editor

The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) experienced an incident over the weekend that disrupted its IT systems, potentially causing Louisiana students attending out-of-state institutions to experience delays in accessing accounts.

The Louisiana Board of Regents cautioned that some Louisiana students attending out-of-state institutions may need to have their billing deadlines extended, since those students may experience delays in accessing accounts.

In an update on Monday, the Louisiana Board of Regents explained that state officials are working to “fully and securely restore operations” and that educational institutions have been notified of the disruption, which is impacting Louisiana’s 529 college savings program, START. Those institutions have also been asked to work with impacted students to minimize any impact on educational services.

For questions concerning a START account, contact [email protected]. For LOSFA services, contact the Louisiana Board of Regents front office at 225-342-4253.
