December State & Regional Association Updates

In this monthly round-up in Today's News, we would like to highlight what is going on in your state and regional financial aid administrator associations.

This month, we have the opportunity to hear from our colleagues from EASFAA and WASFAA.

Anne McDermott, EASFAA president, shares that the EASFAA Regional Council has been hard at work over the last several months. The state conference season has now concluded, and the EASFAA update at each of the state conferences focused on the power of connection, getting involved, and showing appreciation toward our vendor partners. The EASFAA Connects Committee continues to have 22 pairs of mentors/mentees and hosted multiple Coffee & Connections chats this past fall. The EASFAA Leads Committee continues to work on leadership training opportunities and has hosted 5 Dysfunctions of a Team and a Goal Setting session this past fall. They are also working on some great content for the spring, including a session on Managing Up.

EASFAA Credential training recently offered two sessions at the Tri-State Conference in Maryland and one at the PRASFAA conference. They are working with Maryland for two sessions in February and are hoping to have some state collaboration credential trainings in the spring.

Meanwhile, the EASFAA Technology committee recently added new functionality on the website with the intention of creating better connections with members and is working to promote new memberships and help current members navigate the website. The Sector Interest committee recently hosted a webinar, “Addressing Homelessness and Financial Insecurity on College Campuses,” and is creating several listservs for EASFAA members to communicate with each other by sector. EASFAA’s Federal Relations Committee recently held its first regional listening session, geared at gathering and collating input and feedback from EASFAA members on federal regulations, legislative activities, or other federal government or agency concerns for the use of determining EASFAA federal relations activities and positions. This effort is in support of EASFAA’s Strategic Plan goal of enhancing the organization’s public footprint by engaging, informing, and empowering its membership on advocacy. The Tuesday @ 2 Committee hosted seven webinars this past fall and is working on robust training opportunities for the Winter and Spring. EASFAA is looking forward to hosting its conference May 14-17 in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Nicole McMillen, WASFAA president, reports the association will hold its Executive Council Transition Meeting March 20-22, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The WASFAA Annual Conference is slated for April 17-19, 2023 in Tacoma, Washington. WASFAA's Sister Dale Brown Summer Institute will be held June 5-9, 2023 on the campus of Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. You can stay up-to-date on WASFAA happenings and more via the association's newsletter. WASFAA wishes everyone a happy and healthy 2023!

Check back next month to see what your colleagues are doing across the country, and check out your colleagues’ updates from previous months!
