In this monthly round-up in Today's News, we would like to highlight what’s going on in your state and regional associations.
This month, we have the opportunity to hear from our colleagues from Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, Georgia, and the Southwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (SWASFAA).
Dustin Davidson, president of OASFAA (Oklahoma), shares that the association is hosting a support staff training on January 16 at Moore Norman Technology Center - Norman Campus. This session will touch on several topics including application process and student eligibility.
Carmen Rivera Laboy, EASFAA representative for PRASFAA (Puerto Rico), shares that the association held its annual conference and selection of new board members in December.
Emmilee Mitchell, president of GASFAA (Georgia), shares that the association’s Vice President of Professional Development Emily Baldwin, from the University of Georgia, put on an annual fall workshop on October 3-4, 2024, at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. GASFAA’s Virtual Training Chair Emma Stich, from Mercer University, has hosted monthly virtual training webinars. The November webinar topic was identifying and combating fraud in financial aid. Lastly, Emmilee shares that the association is looking forward to its winter one-day training in March, as well as its annual conference on May 21-23, in Athens, Georgia.
Audra Main, past-president of SWASFAA, shares that the association ended the year with a FAAC® workshop for its board members at the University of Houston. Additionally, the association hosted its last board of directors meeting for the year, and transitioned the board for the incoming 2025 members. On January 1, Elizabeth Amador, FAAC®, took over as SWASFAA president. “We are excited to see what the new year brings,” writes Audra. SWASFAA also provided a boot camp for employees at the University of Houston.
