In this monthly round-up in Today's News, we would like to highlight what’s going on in your state and regional associations.
This month, we have the opportunity to hear from our colleagues in Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, the Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA), and the Western Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (WASFAA).
Kelley Christianson, president of IASFAA (Idaho), shares that the association held a successful election for the 2025-2026 Executive Council. The incoming leadership, led by President Gunnar Edwards from the University of Idaho, will assume their roles on May 1. Gunnar attended the NASFAA Leadership & Legislative Conference & Expo to prepare for his presidency, Kelley writes.
Shellee Kilbride, president of NAFAA (Nevada), shares that the association held a special election to fill the vacancy of president-elect. David George will serve as president-elect until April 30 and assume the president role on May 1, 2025, Shellee writes.
Shannon Webber, president of CAFAA (Colorado), shares that the association is preparing for its annual conference in Breckenridge on May 7-9. The association will host a FAAC® Exam Prep Class the day before the conference.
Additionally, Shannon shares that the association has been hosting monthly financial aid director roundtable meetings, and is working closely with the Colorado Department of Higher Education to advocate for the most vulnerable students.
Betsy Johnson, president of MASFAA, shares that registration is now open for the association’s Summer Institute and Leadership Symposium. Both events will take place at St. Xavier University in Chicago from June 2-6.
The Summer Institute is designed to teach the basics of financial aid administration and prepare participants to take NASFAA credential exams. The Leadership Symposium is designed to help cultivate future leaders in MASFAA, state associations, and campuses.
Bronwyn Garrison, president of WASFAA, shares that registration is now open for the association’s annual Sister Dale Brown Summer Institute from June 9-13 at the University of San Diego. This year’s theme is “Wild World of Financial Aid.”
She adds that the association is excited to see everyone in Hawaii this May for the WASFAA 2025 Annual Conference, with the theme of “resiliency through times of change.”
Check back next month to see what your colleagues are doing across the country, and check out your colleagues’ updates from previous months!
